August 31

I cannot believe August is over.

We have been through so much this summer and I am definitely ready to be settled! Let's hope that happens within the next month. Here is an update on Kaia and the move :)

KAIA LUZ IS BORN JUNE 18

In June we were blessed with the most beautiful baby girl. All of the hell (excuse me) that we went through to get her here was worth it! I didn't realize how bad it was at the time and I am sure it could have been worse. When I look back at what I went through in comparison to others, I realize how much it, well, sucked.

I was 41 weeks on Monday, June 17. I went to my doctor appointment that morning and was told that I had not progressed. Not. At. All. I had been 1 centimeter for only a week prior with no effacement. I was so tired of being pregnant and my impatience got the better of me. I couldn't wait one more week. He said that he would try to get me in that night and we could begin the process of getting baby here.

That evening I went in. They started me on Cytocin (?) every 4 hours. Not exactly a fun experience. I wasn't allowed to get out of bed because there was a risk of the pill falling out. So I just laid there, unable to sleep with an uncomfortable catheter. Kyle didn't sleep either, but I was glad to have him there.

The next morning I had dilated to a 3 (whoopee) and had effaced enough to have my water broken. They hoped it would get things going more quickly and so did I! It worked, but not consistently. I was on and off Pitocin all day. Thank heavens for modern medicine! The epidural was the best gift I received that day! The second best gift was when my mom showed up :)

I wasn't sure what time it was but I do know that the NBA finals were beginning and it was time to push. I pushed up until over-time. They said it was 2 hours. I knew it had been a long time. I was extremely worn out and had nothing left to give. When the doctor came in after a c-section (There were 3 earlier that evening. Apparently everyone decided to have a baby that day.) he had me push a few more times. He decided that baby was not going to move past my bones. Her head was just rubbing back and forth on my bone.My gigantic hips lead me into believing that having a baby was no biggie. Silly me. Dr. T said that we could continue trying to push but it didn't look like she was going anywhere. The best option would be to have a c-section. Not exactly what I was hoping for! So before overtime started, we were wheeled into the operating room.

It didn't take long for them to get her out. I was so relieved that she was here! I watched them take her to the side and Kyle went with her. Then more pain from pressure began as they put me back together. The anesthetist gave me more meds and I was out for the count.

The next thing I knew I was waking up in a recovery room surrounded by family and a nurse. My dad was holding my baby girl. I was so loopy and it was hard to concentrate on what people were saying. Kyle, at least I think it was Kyle, asked me if I wanted to hold my baby girl. I wanted to so bad but was afraid I would drop her because I felt so weak. He handed her to me and the moment she was in my arms my heart could not contain my love for her.

We were in the hospital for one week due to my recovery and her jaundice. When we left, I was so relieved to be outside and just a little scared of being on our own.

The next 2 months just flew by! I spent all my time with baby girl. I cannot believe how much she has grown and developed. She amazes me everyday!

MOVING

In early summer, we decided we would move to Colorado so that Kyle could go to school. I procrastinated packing/cleaning the house for weeks. Kyle did a lot of work on the basement so when I finally buckled down and started packing things up, the basement was nearly finished. We spent 2-3 weeks cleaning and packing up the 4-level house and garage, although most of it was done in the last week. Without jobs and a place to live, we headed to Colorado!

Okay, so not necessarily without a place to live. Our plan is to live with Kyle's grandparents in Pueblo until we are secure with jobs. He started school on Monday at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He also started working at the Broadmoor golf course today, but it is only a temporary position. I just accepted a teaching job at VillaSport and begin next week. I am also waiting on another job offer. Until I hear back from them we will stay in Pueblo.
